About the Event
You are cordially invited to join our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration. Juneteenth is the oldest commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This historic day is also referred to as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day among African-Americans. June 19, 1865 was two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery for more than 3 million slaves. When the enslaved of Galveston Bay finally heard the news, they celebrated with prayer, feasting, song and dance. These celebrations have continued across the United States until today. This year we will celebrate Juneteeth with a host of activities including a libation ceremony, guest speaker, music, food, and dance. Tickets are available now.
